DJ Mode

DJ Mode launches a gapless, hardware-decoded MPV session that mixes clips from your library to a music track in real-time. Clips are selected based on musical energy, driver scoring, and your live input - creating a VJ-style performance you can record or stream.

  • MPV with libmpv-2.dll (bundled with the installer)
  • 50+ clips in your library (the DJ button activates progressively)
  • A music track (MP3, WAV, FLAC, or OGG)

On the free Demo, a DJ session runs for 1 minute, and a session rendered from the timeline is its first minute, at 720p with the watermark. With a license, sessions are unlimited.

Click the DJ MODE button in the application header bar to open the DJ Wizard. From the setup screen, choose your music, driver, collection and how many photos to show before entering the live session.

All keybinds are active when the MPV window has focus:

KeyAction
→ (Right)Skip to the next clip
↑ (Up)Increase energy bias (+0.2, more intense clips)
↓ (Down)Decrease energy bias (−0.2, calmer clips)
SPACEStyle lock - locks to current clip’s embedding (20s → 40s → 60s → unlock)
bBlock current clip (adds to bad_clips, skips immediately)
hHype mode - first press enters buildup, second press triggers the drop
fToggle beat-reactive FX (brightness pulses, pan shifts)
sSave current session to JSON
gGold star - rate current clip 5★
/Open CLIP text query - type a description, engine finds matching clips
?Show help overlay with all keybinds

  1. The audio engine tracks the current beat position and energy level (0.0–1.0)
  2. Energy is quantized to a driver tier (1_LOW, 2_MED, 3_HIGH, 4_MAX)
  3. Your energy bias (↑/↓ keys) shifts the raw energy value
  4. The driver computes contrastive similarity scores for eligible clips
  5. Diversity filtering prevents repeating the same clip within the dedupe window
  6. The selected clip is queued for gapless playback via MPV’s playlist

Press SPACE to lock the selection to clips visually similar to the current one:

  1. First press: locks for 20 seconds
  2. Second press: extends to 40 seconds
  3. Third press: extends to 60 seconds
  4. Fourth press: unlocks

The lock captures the current clip’s CLIP embedding and uses cosine similarity to find matching clips. This is useful for keeping a consistent visual theme during a section of the mix.

Press h to enter hype mode - a two-phase buildup/drop mechanic:

  1. Buildup phase: Energy gradually ramps up, clip selection increasingly favors high-intensity footage
  2. Drop phase: Press h again during buildup to trigger the drop - maximum energy, fastest cuts, most intense clips

Press s during a session to save a log of every clip played, with timestamps and tier assignments. To turn a saved session into a video, open the Editor, click 📂 LOAD DJ SESSION above the timeline, pick the session (in the sessions folder), then press 🎬 Render this session in the bar that appears. A live mix you liked doesn’t have to stay a one-off. When a session ends, DJ Mode says it was saved and reminds you how.

When your library, or the collection you pick, holds photos, DJ Mode plays them alongside your videos. Each photo moves across the screen with a slow push, pull or pan, as it does in your edits, faster on loud music and aimed at the faces in it. A portrait photo pans along its length so it fills the screen.

The Photos setting on the setup screen chooses how many of the shots are photos:

  • As in your library: as many as your library holds, compared with its video clips.
  • None, About a quarter, About half, About three quarters or Only photos.

Photos are spread through the session, never bunched together, and each one plays for as long as a clip would. Style Lock, the text query, tiers, Block and Gold star work on photos as on clips.

Each photo’s move is prepared a few seconds before its turn. If your computer is busy and a move isn’t ready in time, a video plays in its place and the photo comes a little later, so the cuts stay on the beat. With Only photos, a photo shown a little earlier plays again instead.

A session you save keeps its photos: 🎬 Render this session renders each one with its move.

DJ Mode respects Source Collections. If you select a collection in the DJ Wizard setup screen, only clips from that collection will be used during the session.
