Free Music Discovery

Overview

Onset Engine integrates with the Jamendo music catalog (700k+ tracks) for discovering, previewing, and downloading CC-licensed music directly from the app. Click the “Find Free” button in the Audio Bin to open the Jamendo panel.

Getting Your API Key

Setting up Jamendo is free and takes 2 minutes:

Go to developer.jamendo.com
Create a free account
Copy your client_id
Paste it in the app: either via the inline field in the Jamendo panel (clickable link opens the site), or via the Jamendo API Key field in Global Preferences (gear icon)

Searching

The Jamendo panel provides powerful search capabilities:

Search Bar: Search for specific keywords or artists.
Genre Dropdown: Filter by Any, Electronic, Rock, Hiphop, Pop, Ambient, Jazz, Classical, Metal, Funk, or Soundtrack.
Type Filter: Filter by Any, Instrumental, or Vocal.

The search returns up to 50 results at a time.

Preview & Download

You can preview tracks before downloading:

The play button (triangle) toggles to stop (square) when playing.
Clicking another track auto-stops the previous one.
Click USE to download and auto-select the track as the project audio.

License Types

All music on Jamendo is available under Creative Commons (CC) licenses. Pay attention to the color-coded badges on each track card:

License	Status	Meaning
CC0, CC-BY, CC-BY-SA	🟢 Green / Safe	Free for all use, including commercial.
CC-BY-NC, CC-BY-NC-SA	🟡 Yellow / Warning	Non-commercial use only. Cannot be used in monetized YouTube, client work, or commercial projects.
CC-BY-ND, CC-BY-NC-ND	🔴 Red / Warning	No derivatives. Audio editing/remixing may be restricted.

A confirmation dialog appears when downloading NC (Non-Commercial) or ND (No Derivatives) tracks explaining the restrictions.

Attribution

Downloaded tracks include attribution info logged to the console. Users should credit the artist per the CC license terms.
